Case Study of the Gila River Healthcare Administrative Offices

Project coordination using BIM involves the integration of multiple technologies between the owner, architect, consultants, contractor and sub-contractors. Open BIM allows these different technologies to be integrated into a collaborative model based on the buildingSMART Data Model workflow and standards.

This program will review how to implement an Open BIM coordination and management process successfully. We will review a case study, the Gila River Healthcare Administrative Offices project, to see how multiple technologies are integrated into the BIM model. Technologies we will review that were integrated on this project through an OpenBIM workflow will include Excel, Onuma Planning System, ArchiCAD, Ecodesigner, Revit and Solibri.

Open BIM - Capturing, Transferring, Exchanging Data

Russ Sanders has been using technology and process to re-invent architectural practice since the early 1990s. Technology and emerging project delivery methods have combined to transform the way we work throughout project design and into the entire building life cycle. Sanders has been working with Graphisoft ArchiCAD BIM software since 1991. He completed the first fully described virtual building project for his firm Orcutt | Winslow in the mid 1990s and in 2005 was the recipient of a TAP BIM Award from the AIA. He has since continued to incorporate and develop new interoperable tools and workflows into projects in Arizona while lecturing throughout the United States and abroad. As an architect, office mentor, and BIM/IPD resource, Sanders manages the Special Projects Studio at Orcutt | Winslow while working on all facets of projects from programming to design to field administration and staff management. Sanders contributes ideas and direction to the programming team for Orcutt | Winslow’s Virtual Project™ web-based architectural management tool - a custom-built web application that interfaces an Oracle database.

About the Speaker:
