Designing a Healthy & Vibrant Workspace

The Mosaic Centre reinvents the office, offering a design solution that will improve the quality of life and health of its occupants. Located at the threshold of a commercial strip and the emerging Edmonton community of Summerside, the building will house the Mosaic Family of Companies, providing its staff not only an office, but amenities including a child-care facility, wellness centre, lounge areas and game rooms, and a restaurant. Every detail of the building will work together to promote a healthy collaborative work environment that resonates with the unique ethos of its occupants and resonates as a healthy, vibrant workplace.

This session will explore how The Mosaic Centre is aiming to be Canadais first triple bottom line (TBL) commercial building. TBL incorporates three dimensions of an organizationís performance: social, environmental and financial. TBL captures the essence of sustainability by measuring the impact of an organizationís activities on the world including both its profitability and shareholder values and its social, human and environmental capital. The Mosaic Centre

The Centre is also pursuing Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum certifications. Total budget for the project is $10.5 million. It is Albertaís first commercial building designed and constructed using a full Integrated Project Delivery Process.

One of the goals of the Mosaic Centre is to inspire others in a better way by design. From the very beginning, the Mosaic team has been documenting lessons learned and sharing its lessons with the green building community and the greater public through its website (www.themosaiccentre.ca).
