Integration of BIM Tools within Environmental Analysis to Improve Building Performance

Operational energy use often doesn't match the design energy goals. The key to achieving these successful outcomes are performance, design and integrated practice. With the growing necessity for evidence based design, a holistic design process that incorporates environmental analysis and allows for integration and collaboration, is paramount.

In practice, many analytical resources are available. This presentation will highlight the tools, BIM technologies and implementation processes while illustrating the importance of environmental analysis.

The speaker will demonstrate how the tools can be leveraged at the earliest stages of the design process all the way through completion and occupancy.

Closing the Performance Gap

With over 20 years of design experience throughout America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Zorana's expertise spans various building types and climate regions. She has provided sustainable design on some of HOK's most environmentally innovative projects. Her projects combine innovative workplace engagement strategies, energy and resource conservation, and facade and daylight enhancements. Zorana is an avid promoter of collaborative partnerships between HOK and research institutions including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Center for the Built Environment, and New Buildings Institute. As a thought leader of HOK's Sustainable Leaders alliance, Zorana speaks frequently on sustainable innovation throughout the country.

About the Speaker:

Improve Operational Energy Use

  • recognize the importance of integrating environmental analysis and BIM technologies from early design through construction and occupancy;
  • explore available environmental analysis and BIM tools and their stages of implementation in order to most effectively use them;
  • identify the right questions to ask to determine the relevance of collaborative and integrated approaches in tools and data for energy and environmental design;
  • determine how to leverage environmental analysis and technology towards meeting the energy performance goals in occupancy.
